TIM
HUS - BUSH PILOT BUCKAROO
STONY PLAIN
By Donald Teplyske Roots Music
Dubbing himself a Canadiana Cowboy singer and songwriter,
Tim Hus continues to define his approach to modern country
music. With supporters including Stompin’ Tom Connors,
the black-hatted Hus has delivered his most fully realized
recording, Bush Pilot Buckaroo. Slinging more syllables
per line than usual in this type of music, Hus seldom
takes a misstep. The cadence of his delivery marks each
song as his own, and provides a consistency in sound that
is favourable. Liberally sprinkling his songs with prairie
references and landmarks, Hus’s growing national
appeal may be related to his genuine interest in documenting
common elements- work, love, home, and good times. Backersfield
Music pays tribute to Buck and Merle, while Roadhouse
Band provides a favourable view of the working musician’s
life. Battle River hits closer to home, and is fair lonesome.
Cattlerack Cadillac and Dempster Highway are in the mold
of Corb Lund, and should prove popular radio hits. Bush
Pilot Buckaroo is a solid country album with hooks to
appeal to the masses, and enough substance to be credible.
