CD REVIEW - COUNTRY
TIM HUS - BUSH PILOT BUCKAROO (Stony
Plain/Warner)
After three independently financed
releases and several cross-country treks under his guitar
strap, Tim Hus has signed with Alberta based Stony Plain
and produced his most accessible disc yet.
The truckers who tame the Dempster Highway, the coal miners
of Westray and Hillcrest and the homesick roughnecks who
work the oil fields join the cowboys, guitar slingers
and bush pilot buckaroos who inhabit the musical world
of the 30-year-old. Like fellow Albertan Corb Lund, Hus
is influenced by the cowboy poetry of Ian Tyson and Ramblin'
Jack Elliot. You'll also hear elements of Waylon and Willie;
however, legendary Canadian artist Stompin' Tom Connors
has left an even larger boot print on Hus's overall sound
(he covers Connors' Hockey Mom).
Like his mentor, his subject matter is inspired by the
people, places and stories of this country for a genre
that could only be termed Canadiana.
